About the Artist

THE ARTIST

A native Texan, Monte Hunter grew up in the Panhandle, obtained an architectural degree from Texas Tech, and moved to Midland-Odessa in 1979.  During the 80’s he started watercolor painting, taught classes, and participated in art exhibits.  For the following 27 years he led a West Texas architectural firm that promoted and managed school bond programs.  After selling the firm, he moved to Austin to be closer to family and resumed painting.

FOR ENCOURAGEMENT, IN APPRECIATION, AND HEALING

Gifting art for encouragement, in appreciation, and for healing is why Monte paints.  His cancer journey, along with those of family members and friends, inspired Bookshelf Sketches.  Many sketches are gifted to cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers.  Sketch sales fund supplies, framing, and shipping of gifted art.

ART SUBJECTS

Mostly living creatures and nature from the Texas coast to the Rocky Mountains.

STYLE

Using watercolor, and occasionally pen, Monte works in a painterly style to capture the serenity of nature and beauty of life.  Some subjects inspire a more ethereal approach - soft, luminous, and dreamlike.
